abiola a. olusola | emi
With a cultural melange of Africa with the West, and an exploration of how cultures contrast and complement, emerging womenswear line Abiola A. Olusola drops its debut collection: emi.
As Creative Director and Founder of the eponymous brand, Abiola Adeniran-Olusola says of her collection:
“emi is an introspective collection based on the philosophy that we are a collective of several… and a part of one… this collection was inspired by the things that collectively make me who I am: culture, travels, love, experiences, influences.
emi was also inspired by contemporary african women, and the dynamic lives we lead, always on the go, infused with our culture but also experiencing other cultures and blending all these cultural experiences and making them our own, becoming us, emi."
The collection (which takes its title from the Yoruba word for me): Frayed hems, balloon sleeves, dusters and trench coats, peekaboo cut-outs, high-riding slits, jewelry buttons - all meet the western minimalist dresser's needs while Yoruba fabrics like Aso-oke and Adire and local straw mats ooze just the right amount of African appeal. The collection sees a demure color palette with hues from porcelain pink, umber and white to turquoise green.
Keywords: simplicity and comfort.
