awale studio | la bonne ecole
Jad Fardon runs a brand for the both millennial and non-millennial minimalists. In truth, the creations of the creative director of the Paris-based marque that is Awale Studio, extend beyond his age and qualifications. A certified architect from Ecole Speciale d'Architecture in Paris, it is only natural that his eyes are distinctively trained for design. But it is not just Fardon's designs, it is the stirring tales he seeps into these designs. Effort after effort, Fardon not only constructs novel albeit quirky pieces, he connects them with stories mostly from places of his childhood, putting emphasis on his burgeoning brand's ethical and sustainable bona fides.
Despite his non-complicated way of design as well as his seasoned and gender-defying collections, Fardon is fully aware that he caters to trend-conscious demographic, thus steadily presenting clothings that have an appeal to both older and fresher eyes. And as such, he's mixing vintage-sque leisure and casual finery; see: gingham, puff sleeves, pleats, bishop collars, flutter sleeves et al, refashioning looks of of a typical 90s baby with his newest offering.
A major highlight of the Lebanese designer's latest collection "La Bonne Ecole" for me is his constant reference to "those teenagers who want to show-up their underwear," what with the double waist band feature on skirts and pants. Also, Fardon's recent effort shows no deviation from his ultimate goal, which is to provide comfort as it is composed of loose fitting pants, skirts, T-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, bermudas - no surprise there. As a uniform lover in general, the slogan tees which read mathematical equations such as the classical « 20/20 », as well as « 0 + 0 = 0 » were not completely unexpected seeing that Fardon "went back to school" for this collection, evidently so, going by the title and the schoolyard playground setting of the collection's lookbook.
Take my word for it (or not) look 12 - the « 0 + 0 = 0 » slogan tee paired with cropped blazers and double waist flare pants- in the style of Ogo Offodile will be favorites amongst fashionistas.
