British singer and songwriter Sampha has just released a 37 minute short film - 'Process' - a visual contextualization of the 28-year-old's most recent album of the same name. Produce in January, the piece was filmed between Freetown, Sierra Leone, and Morden, South London by Pulse Films director Kahlil Joseph, the brilliant mind behind Beyonce’s Lemonade and several music videos for FKA Twigs and Kendrick Lamar.
Both locations are of significant meanings to Sampha; Freetown being the hometown of his parents and Morden the London suburb he grew up in after his family's move to the U.K. The intense short film is dedicated to the artist's mother, who died of cancer in 2015. Featuring “ghostly spiritual surfer guides, crop circle dance formations, time altering narrative leaps,” the film shifts between two dissimilar cultures.
