Indonesian fashion label Nikicio's SS17 Black Label collection is focused on the monochromatic, tapping into the essence of everyday, effortless dressing - and using environmentally conscious fabrics. Creative Director Nina Nikicio relies on loose, oversizedsilhouettes with long-sleeve shirts and reworked pull-up pants.
With this collection, Nikicio aims to address the increasingly pressing issue of sustainability in the fashion industry.
"Inspired by palm trees, this season’s print touches upon the issue of deforestation, particularly in Borneo and Kalimantan. Indonesia makes up 85% of global palm oil production. In 2015 alone, over 4 million hectares of land was cleared for palm oil plantations."
Nikicio taps Lyocell fabrics as an alternative to cotton, Powder Skin instead of silk, while Peslin replaces linen. The brand says all three use less water and chemicals then their alternatives and make for longer lasting garments. They eschew chemical-laden dry-cleaning processes, repel stains and moths and are generally lower-maintenance then their over-used siblings.
Designed to be carefree and seasonless, Nikicio's Black Label looks like one to invest in.
