The caffeine-loving Indonesian capital of Jakarta is dotted with cafés and roasteries, but not all of them takes their coffee seriously. Thank goodness we have people like Yasser "Udjo" Sadikin, the owner of 616 Roastery.
Just like coffee-brewing itself, Yasser "Udjo" Sadikin’s roasting skill is the result of a long and meticulous process. He developed his interest in coffee as the "Third Wave Coffee" trend swept over Jakarta. The term was first coined in the early 2000s to describe a movement where modern consumers grow more aware of the science behind brewing and the fair trade practices.
Upon noticing the variety of flavors listed on his coffee’s packaging, Udjo began to delve into the art of brewing good-quality beans. To Globetrotter, he talked about the “trials and errors” he’s encountered in the process of creating the perfect brew and having what he called the “audacity to learn more about coffee.”
