universal hip hop museum hosts 'hip hop loves ny' coronavirus benefit

April 25, 2020

Featuring LL Cool J, Nas, Ice-T, Doug E. Fresh, Wu-Tang Clan, De La Soul, Chuck D and many more.

In New York, the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic, the African-Americans are the most affected. As they are more prone to diseases such as heart attack or diabetes, and with less access to healthcare, the African-Americans are currently dying at a significantly high rate. Some afflicted include rappers Vinnie Brown of Naughty by Nature and Fred the Godson, who unfortunately passed away on Thursday.

In response to the coronavirus crisis, the New York-based Universal Hip Hop Museum (UHHM) hosted “Hip Hop Loves NY” livestream event on April 23 to honor and raise money for the frontline workers.

Broadcasted in collaboration with Mass Appeal, the livestream saw appearances by numerous legendary celebrities and artists, from LL Cool J, Nas, Ice-T, Doug E. Fresh, Wu-Tang Clan, De La Soul, Chuck D of Public Enemy, Stretch & Bobbito and many more. The event featured online conversations between the stars who discussed openly about the effects of the virus on the communities, followed by live in-home music performances.

All the proceeds from Hip Hop Loves NY would benefit SOMO Community Care and the Bronx Community Relief Effort, and interested donors are still welcomed to donate here.
