It's important for an artist to find their own signature style. For rising UK rapper Ike Chuks, that style is Igbotic.
To understand Igbotic is to know Ike. A Nigeria-originated artist who now calls UK his home, Ike is a product of two worlds, and so is his music. Influenced by his British home as he is, Ike still champions his Nigerian heritage, breaking stereotypes about the Igbo people through his songs.
This musical style appears in his latest EP, his second effort following 2017's Son of the Soil. Aptly titled Igbotic, the EP consists of five tracks, including collaborations with BOJ and Mystro. Igbotic is an eclectic mix of UK Afro Swing, with lyrics delivered in English, Pidgin and Igbo languages.
His tribute to Nigeria continues in the project’s color scheme: warm green. Not only is it the official color of the country, green is also synonymous to its agricultural exports.
