If you haven't seen Netflix's first African Original Queen Sono, there's no better time than now, especially as you're probably cooped up at home.

Premiered in late February, the 6-part series centers around the titular character, played by Pearl Thusi. Unbeknownst to her grandmother and closest friend-slash-psychiatrist, Queen Sono leads a double life as a South African secret agent. As the story goes on, Queen will find her personal and professional lives entangled as she tries to find the truth behind her mother's death while investigating a new terrorist organization.

Smart, resourceful, yet manipulative (sometimes) and not afraid to break the rules, Queen has enough flaws that make her grounded and serious skills that make her a captivating super spy. An engaging personality, Queen is well-matched by her grandmother (Abigail Kubeka), whose hilarious bluntness makes her our favorite.

Queen Sono, both the main character and the series, is uniquely African. Like the continent, Queen speaks multiple languages and engages with people of different backgrounds. The viewers follow her as she jumps from city to city, from Johannesburg to Zanzibar to Congo and other locations. This is why the show is a perfect accompaniment as you self-isolate, since it allows you to live vicariously through Queen who, unlike most of us, is still free to roam around.

Creator Kagiso Lediga also keeps it real by blending South Africa's modern-day politics and apartheid past into the story. The African pride continues behind the scenes, as Queen Sono boasts an all-African cast and crew.

Queen Sono is streaming now on Netflix.
