In conjunction with the release of their new EP Goldress, Belgian alternative R&B/soul duo YellowStraps has unveiled the music video for the track "Take Over".
Before they were YellowStraps, brothers Alban and Yvan Murenzi were a pair of self-taught musicians from Braine-l’Alleud, a municipality just outside of Brussels. They drew inspiration from King Krule, Daniel Caesar, Tom Misch and Moonchild to create their own brand of luxurious R&B. Since YellowStraps' inception in 2014, the brothers have since won the Most Promising Artist award at Redbull Elektropedia and collaborated with one of Belgium's finest and Globetrotter’s favorite, Lefto, among other accomplishments.
YellowStraps has recently added another feather to their cap with the release of Goldress, their new 8-track EP and a music video to the highlight song, "Take Over".
Directed by François Dubois, the video features Yvan and a female performer as they push and pull against each other, visualizing the theme of the song. "'Take Over' describes the toxic situation in a relationship where one party is overly dependent on the other," describe the brothers. "It takes the form of a direct conversation in which one of the parties explains to the other that it is essential to have their own balanced path and way of life, instead of relying on the others."
The track itself starts with a jazzy electric guitar, and is coupled with the dynamic guitar style, rhythmic set of drums and spacious pauses; the three elements that can be found throughout the overall EP.
