In 2019, Fireboy DML made his breakthrough in the Nigerian music scene with his hit song, “Jealous”. Globetrotter, too, loved it so much, that we included it in our 5by5 Music Weekly Playlist in August last year.
His 2020 has been so far so good as well. Following the release of his debut album Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps a couple of months ago, the 23-year-old has recently unveiled the music video to “Need You”, one of the tracks in the record.
“It’s a tale of love—,“ writes Fireboy about the song, a mellow ballad about one’s beloved partner. “Of finding it and losing it again, of learning that time is fickle and you have to treasure what you hold dear while you still can.“
Directed by Clarence Peters, the music video is as dramatic as the song itself, with a plot that matches a short action flick, a couple the viewers will root for and a movie baddie everyone likes to hate. It features Fireboy as the main character and his leading lady on the run from the villain. Watch the video above to know how it ends!
In an email interview with Globetrotter Lab, the Ghanaian Afro-Dancehall artist emphasizes the importance of the theme of freedom in relation to black people and people of color.
“We have no choice but to disrupt the programme,“ states the band. And we have no choice but to stan.
